Simon Denny LANDSCAPES Book Launch & Talk February 24th
The new book, published by Sorry Press, is a collection of the artist's landscape paintings. The launch event is presented in collaboration with Petzel Gallery.
Join us Saturday, February 24th, from 4 - 6pm at TJ Byrne’s (77 Fulton St. NY, NY) for a reception celebrating the release of Simon Denny Landscapes, a publication documenting Denny’s landscape paintings published by Sorry Press. The reception will feature a discussion between the artist, Joshua Citarella, and Julia Kaganskiy.
Denny’s landscape paintings depict digital land plots as they were sold in virtual world projects like Decentraland, The Sandbox, or Voxels—some of the earliest and most popular ventures invested in during the recent crypto/metaverse boom. The color blocks of digital real estate bring forth the promises made by trending technologies, and the history of landscape paintings as a marketing tools for frontiersmanship.
Landscapes is a complete volume of Denny’s landscape paintings, and features commentary from Christina Barton, Adina Glickstein, Martin Herbert, Omar Kholeif, and Fred Turner alongside detailed reproductions of the artist’s works. The book is put out by Sorry Press, an independent publishing house located in Munich, Germany with a catalog in literature, architecture, art, and design. A limited number of books, signed by the artist, will be available for purchase at the book launch on Feb 24.
Landscapes launches as a part of Read Write Own, Denny’s exhibition at Dunkunsthalle (opening Feb 22, 6-8pm) which will display some of the paintings that are reproduced in the book, alongside Denny’s Dividers – laser cut whiteboard room-dividers the artist acquired from 2023 Twitter office furniture liquidation auction.
In addition to Denny's show at Dunkunsthalle, Denny will present two exhibitions at Petzel gallery; Dungeon and Multi-User Dungeon (MUD), about which more information can be found here.
